4 Important Considerations When Buying A Forklift

A forklift can be a handy tool for a business. It can allow you to easily move goods and products more efficiently throughout your warehouse or building. It is a great way to ensure that you have the tools to move your goods around. When it comes to purchasing a forklift, there are various factors you are going to want to consider.

Factor #1: Condition

First, you need to consider if you want to purchase a new forklift or a used forklift. Buying a new forklift will give you access to a brand-new product that hasn't been used yet. You will get a great warranty on the product. However, brand-new forklifts can be expensive. When you purchase a used forklift, you can save a lot of money. You can work with a dealer who offers a warranty for their product. The key to purchasing a used forklift is to do your research and ensure you are getting a quality product.

Factor #2: Mast Height

Second, you need to consider how far up you need the forklift to be able to reach. The height of your ceilings is not going to change; so you measure and see how tall your ceilings are, and how tall your tallest pallet racks are. You want to purchase a forklift with a mast height that will allow you to reach the top of your tallest pallet racks.

Factor #3: Capacity

Third, you need to consider the capacity of the forklift. Essentially, how much weight do you want it to be able to move? What size of goods do you want the forklift to be capable of moving? You want to ensure that the forklift that you choose is able to move around the products that you need it to move around. It is better to go with more weight capacity than less, so you don't stress out or strain the machine by putting too much stress on it. Find out what the average weight of your goods and pallets is right now,  and go for a machine with a capacity that exceeds your average needs, so you are not always maxing it out.

Factor #4: Engine Type

Fourth, you need to consider what type of engine you need. If you are working underground or in an enclosed area, you are going to want to go with an electric engine. If you are working around sensitive products that you don't want to be exposed to fumes, such as food, you are also going to want an electric engine. If you are working outside or in a space with good ventilation, you can go with a diesel engine.

When it comes to buying a forklift, you need to decide if you want a new or used unit, figure out how tall you need it to reach and how much weight you want it to carry, and finally, figure out what type of engine you want it to have. This information will help you make an informed purchasing decision.
